Preparation
Step 1
Cream the sugar, eggs, and butter (margarine) together.
Step 2
Mix the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt) separately.
Step 3
Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture along with the sour cream and vanilla.
Step 4
Combine the topping ingredients: brown sugar, cinnamon, 1/4 cup sugar, and chopped nuts.
Step 5
Pour 1/2 the batter into a greased 9x9 pan.
Step 6
Sprinkle 1/2 the topping on top so it is in the middle of the coffee cake.
Step 7
Add the remaining batter and sprinkle the remaining topping on the top.
Step 8
Cook at 325°F for 45 minutes.
Chef's Note
I often increase it by 1/2 adjusting to 3 cups flour, 1 1/2 t powder, 3 eggs etc. and put in 9x13 pan. Cook at 325, usually for about 50 to 55 minutes. Check the center with a tooth pick to know when done.
